The Revs will be without Gil for a few weeks.

The New England Revolution will be without Carles Gil for three-plus weeks because of a sports hernia, according to a source who spoke to The Bent Musket.

Gil has started all 17 games this season, contributing 1,502 minutes. He’s only been subbed off on two occasions, one of which came on Saturday when he departed in the 89th minute of the game against the New York Red Bulls. Head coach Bruce Arena minimized the exit, telling the media that Gil was “fine” despite the midfielder limping off the pitch. At this time it’s unknown if the injury happened during the game.

Gil is having a MVP-caliber season, currently leading the league in assists (15), key passes (75), and successful dribbles (55). He was on pace to break the single-season assist record, set in 2000 when Carlos Valderrama had 26.

As the team’s playmaker and captain, Gil is a major factor in the Revolution being atop the Supporters’ Shield standings. The team is presently four points ahead of the Seattle Sounders.

Fans will get an unwanted glimpse at what the Revs look like without Gil on Wednesday when the Revs host Nashville SC at Gillette Stadium. Kickoff for this critical Eastern Conference matchup is set for 7 pm.
