Red Bulls Look to Reclaim Road Warrior Status Against Charlotte

March 26, 2023 by Last Word On Soccer

MLS: Charlotte FC at New York Red Bulls as the Red Bulls Look To Reclaim Road Status in Charlotte

PREVIEW – The New York Red Bulls look to reclaim road warrior status as they head to Bank of America Stadium to face Charlotte FC. Last season, the Red Bulls dominated teams on the road and would be glad to get some of that magic back. Coming off a home win against Columbus Crew last week has the team recharged for the challenge. Charlotte FC, with their first win of the season also just behind them, will want to give their fans a win at home.

Designated Player Dante Vanzeir is rising to the occasion. The game-winner against Columbus was an exciting moment for the team and fans. Vanzeir has needed some time to become a fully match-fit, but we just might see him in the Starting Lineup tonight. The earlier he can get onto the pitch, the more of an impact he can make.  He has the mentality and the skill in front of the goal to keep adding to his account.

Possible Fireworks – Charlotte FC (1-0-3)

Charlotte FC picked up a total of six yellow cards in their clash against Orlando last week. Physicality is a part of the game, and the Red Bulls can give as good as they get. This will only be the third regular-season meeting between these two teams, who each have a win so far.

But with both teams on the upswing, they will want to hold fast to any chance they get. In a pre-match press conference, defender Dylan Nealis spoke about how the team is preparing for the matchup: “[W]e know they are a possession heavy team, so I think we kind of look at these games and get excited, you know, when we play teams that really value the ball.” Look for the Red Bulls to force turnovers and capitalize on any lapse in judgement from Charlotte.

Prediction: Charlotte FC 2-2 Red Bulls

More shared points. Call me jaded, but I just can’t see another win coming so soon for the Red Bulls. Luquinhas and Vanzeir will have their moments, but Charlotte’s Enzo Copetti will give RBNY goalkeeper Carlos Coronel plenty of grief. And while Charlotte’s keeper George Marks had a strong game with nine saves against Orlando, the Red Bull attack might stretch him too far. I anticipate a lot of movement in the middle of the park, with most if not all goals in the second half.
