Jozy Altidore Bought Out by Revolution Ahead of Orlando City Clash

June 16, 2023 by Last Word On Soccer

Jozy Altidore bought out by the New England Revolution ahead of Orlando City clash!

The New England Revolution got back to winning ways in their last outing. Carles Gil starred as the Revs beat Inter Miami 3-1 at Gillette Stadium. Next up is a matchup against another Florida team in Orlando City, and Jozy Altidore won’t be in the mix after the club bought out the former USMNT forward.

Jozy Altidore Definitely Won’t be in Action Tomorrow Night

Assessing the Jozy Altidore Era in New England

Jozy Altidore joining the Revolution has turned out to be a failed experiment, and not the first of Bruce Arena’s tenure. He arrived in New England alongside Sebastian Lletget and Omar Gonzalez and it was a trio that failed to truly establish themselves.

Previously, the striker was on loan with Mexican side Puebla but it looked as if he still had a chance of making a career for himself with the Revs. This season, Jozy has made 10 MLS appearances amassing a mere 194 minutes. In that period, he scored once, in the 3-3 draw with the Chicago Fire and picked up a yellow card too.

Thank you, Jozy.

Looking ahead to the future and The Athletic are reporting that “New England plan to bring in at least one new summer signing, the sources said.” Gustavo Bou, Bobby Wood and Giacomo Vrioni are the three central strikers on the Revolution’s rosters who are battling it out for the starting spot, a battle being one by Wood currently.

When it comes to Jozy Altidore and if there is interest in him, he has a lot of options available. “The full buyout allows Altidore to sign with any MLS team at a low salary. He can also look to sign with teams in Europe or elsewhere, and one of the sources said Greek sides AEK Athens and PAOK are interested in signing Altidore.”

At the time of writing, the player is yet to make a public comment on the severing of ties between him and the 2021 Supporters’ Shield winners.

Can the Revs Snap Orlando’s Unbeaten Streak?

Turning attentions to tomorrow’s game and it promises to be a fascinating encounter in the top half of the Eastern Conference. The Revs previously led the way but are now down in fourth place. Six games without a win saw to that but last time out, Arena’s men stepped it up against Miami.

Orlando City on the other hand are in seventh in the East yet they’ve enjoyed some strong form recently. They’re unbeaten in six which includes a 3-0 win at Red Bull Arena and a victory against Miami just a couple hundred miles south.

Facundo Torres has 4 goal contributions in the last 2 matches. #OrlandoCity are unbeaten in the last 6 and unbeaten at home in their last 4. Feels like OCSC are starting to hit and are heading in the right direction. https://t.co/eFaGsJ5bvD

Bruce Arena is also yet to comment on the departure of Jozy Altidore but he did have this to say about this next MLS fixture. “We’re facing a team that’s had a good run over the last couple of months with some very good attacking players, so we need to be ready to play a good game.”

Facundo Torres will be one to watch out for Dave Romney and co as he is coming off of three goals in two games. The Uruguayan netted a second-half break against the Red Bulls and then opened the scoring in the win over the Colorado Rapids. Orlando boss Oscar Pareja is similar to Arena in that they are both league mainstays so it will be a true war both on and off of the field.
