On Saturday Kessler was added to the Gold Cup roster

Matt Turner will have a new buddy joining him on the United States Men’s National Team for the Gold Cup.

Walker Zimmerman suffered an injury and will miss the rest of the tournament. This is a pretty big blow since the Nashville SC defender was a cornerstone of the USMNT backline.

This led Gregg Berhalter to call Henry Kessler and Cade Cowell into camp. With the USMNT also nursing some injuries up top, there was a chance that both youngsters got called up.

But only one player ended up staying with the stars and stripes, the Revolution can now add Kessler to the list of players they have lost due to the Gold Cup.

This is a big opportunity for Kessler. He has the chance to impress Berhalter at a young age and possibly earn a spot in his future plans. It wouldn’t be that surprising if Kessler ends up getting some playing time with Berhalter not having a lot of options at center back.

For New England this just means that they will continue to ride things out without Kess. After making six changes, Bruce Arena is likely to trot out a much stronger lineup against Montreal. It will be interesting to see if Arena has Jon Bell or A.J. DeLaGarza be paired with Andrew Farrell.

On Sunday Revolution fans will get the chance to watch their favorite club play at home searching for another win and then soon after watch Turner and now Kessler suit up for the USMNT. It doesn’t get much better than that.
