Henry Kessler called into USMNT camp

MLS: New England Revolution at Atlanta United FC

With Walker Zimmerman getting sent home due to an injury, Henry Kessler has the opportunity to get his first cap for the senior team.

The New England Revolution were already without Matt Turner and Tajon Buchanan and now they can add another player to the list.

After Walker Zimmerman got injured in the game against Buchanan and Canada, The Nashville SC defender was sent home and Revolution center back Henry Kessler was called into United States Men’s National Team camp as well as Cade Cowell.

With Zimmerman being sent home, it seems rather likely that Kessler is named to the roster by the Saturday deadline. This means that New England back line will be shaken up.

After getting his first playing time for the U-23’s in Olympic Qualifying, Kessler now has the chance to get his first cap for the senior team in the Gold Cup. If he made an appearance he would also be cap-tied to the United States.

This does leave the Revolution in a precarious state. The back line duo of Kessler and Andrew Farrell finally seemed to finally find their rhythm. Now New England will be without their best defender.

Jon Bell and AJ DeLaGarza should get some more playing time while Kessler is gone. With Bell struggling in his most recent appearances, Bruce Arena could lean on the veteran DeLaGarza.

But there is no doubt that this is a big moment for Kessler. He has the opportunity to make a name for himself on the international level and maybe even catch the attention of Gregg Berhalter. Kessler could get himself in the center back conversation for the USMNT.

New England Revolution fans will be tuning in on Sunday as the United States faces off against Jamaica at 9:30 ET. Matt Turner is likely to get his fourth straight start and Kessler has the opportunity to show just how talented he is.
