Gustavo Bou not focused on Golden Boot race

MLS: CF Montreal at New England Revolution

Gustavo Bou is quietly sneaking up the board when it comes to goals in 2021.

Revolution fans saw Gustavo Bou ball out on Sunday night.

The striker scored his eighth and ninth goals of the season and now leads New England in goals. Bou’s first strike was an absolute strike. Fans half expected a trail of fire to be behind the ball as La Pantera went bar down to give the Revs a 1-0 win.

But Bou isn’t just making a goal scoring impact for his team, he is also one of the best scorers in all of MLS. Right now he is tied for third in the league with Daniel Sallói of Sporting KC.

Currently Raul Ruidiaz leads the way with 11 goals and Chicharito is just behind him with 10.

But if you take out penalty kick goals, Bou is actually tied for second with Ruidiaz and Chicharito leads the way with all of his goals coming from natural play.

After the game, Bou was asked if he thinks he can compete for the MLS Golden Boot race and he doesn’t seem to be too caught up in his own accolades.

The striker said, “I know I’m up there, but I’m not really thinking about it. I compete, and my objective is to compete to help the team win. The rest of the individual accolades are not things that I’m thinking about.”

This season Bou has definitely been a more complete player. He has done much better pressing opponents and causing turnovers. Also the 31-year-old has been doing a much better job of distributing the ball. Even in this recent game we saw him nearly set up Adam Buksa with a beautiful chip.

When it comes to New England’s attack, Carles Gil gets a lot of the love (rightly so), but this has been a great season for Bou. He is on pace to have his best season in a Revs uniform. With Gil creating magic and Bou finding his scoring touch, the Revolution are one of the most dangerous teams in MLS.

But as long as New England is picking up three points, La Pantera doesn’t care if he’s scoring goals or dishing out assists. All Bou wants to do is win.
