DeJuan Jones was all over the ball on Sunday and his performance showed just how far he has come as a player.

One of the unsung heroes for the New England Revolution in 2021 has been DeJuan Jones.

Jones has been a menace on the left flank and has surprised some fans with just how well he has performed. So far this season, the left back has a goal and three assists.

Entering this season, Jones was expected to slot in behind Christian Mafla on the depth chart, but Jones got off to a great start in the preseason. That performance combined with Mafla’s injuries led to him getting the starting job.

Against the Union on Sunday, Jones had a quality performance. He led the match in duels won and tackles, and also had 107 touches. After the match, Bruce Arena described Jones as dangerous on Sunday.

Arena said, I think the final product wasn’t there with some of his crosses and all, but defensively and getting into the attack and being threatening down the left side, was real good. I thought tonight’s performance was much improved over the performance we saw against Nashville. He’s growing into that position and he played very well tonight.”

Jones also thought that he performed well on Sunday and also talked about how he feels he has performed this season.

He said, “Yeah, I would say technically I’ve been better. I think my left foot has gotten better this year as well, and just making better decisions, playing quick. Today, I thought I was pretty good. A couple of passes I want back, a couple decisions I wish I could have back, but it’s all part of the game. I’ll watch film and try to correct them for next game.”

There is no doubt that Jones has improved his left foot. He has become a more complete player and has been a constant threat on the attack.

It appears that members of the global soccer landscape are paying attention to Jones’ performance this year. SBI Soccer reported that Jones was receiving European interest.

Jones was asked about the rumors after the win on Sunday and he mentioned his European aspirations.

He said, “Yeah, I think it’s great. It’s obviously one of my goals to get over to Europe someday and play, or play the national team. So, to get those looks is really exciting and I know I have a lot of work to do. So just for now, I’m just focusing on continuing to get better every day and winning games for the Revs.”

Jones and the Revolution will get a slight break as they head to Toronto on Saturday to play Toronto FC. If he continues to play well, his dreams of playing in Europe could eventually come true.
