CanMNT Predicted Lineup vs USMNT: Midfield Will Be Important

June 19, 2023 by Last Word On Soccer

Soccer: Fifa World Cup Qualifier-Jamaica at Canada as Stephen Eustaquio Is One of the Midfielders

The CanMNT predicted lineup for the game on Sunday against the USMNT will be for one of the most important games in Canadian men’s soccer history. The USMNT has been dominant in recent Concacaf Cup competitions, winning the last two trophies in Concacaf play, so it will be a tough task.

The CanMNT and How They Lined Up

The CanMNT recently used the 4-3-3 formation against Panama last Friday. However, they struggled to start the match against the Panamanians, who had few chances to score. They will need to be more careful with the USMNT, who has a lot more weapons to play with as they have both Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun

They may need to change to a more defensive 4-4-2 formation and counterattack against the USMNT, with Laryea moving back to his natural right-back position. This counterattack strategy worked in Canada’s win over the U.S. in Tim Hortons Field, and with Alphonso Davies in this game, Canada should get more chances to score in this game.

Midfielder, Stephen Eustáquio, will be an important player for Canada as he links up with players like Cyle Larin and Jonathan David. It will also be important for the midfielders to not turn over the ball too much and put the CanMNT defenders under pressure. That is where Atiba Hutchinson comes in as he is a reliable defensive midfielder for the national team. However, he will probably come from the bench and the question is whether he can handle the speed of the USMNT.

CanMNT Recent Form (3-0-2)

The CanMNT has won their last three games. This includes comfortable wins against Curaçao, Honduras, and Panama. Players like Jonathan David and Cyle Larin have played in all three of those games. They are also the two all-time leading goal scorers for Canada and will be instrumental for Canada up-front.

This game will also be different as Canada in the last three games was allowed to play with a more offensive tactical formation. The threat of players like Pulisic and Balogun will be the ones Canada will need to be wary of.
