Bruce Arena on an addition during the summer transfer window: “Anything is possible, but I wouldn’t bet on it.”

It looks like the New England Revolution won’t be making an addition during the summer transfer window, which closes on Thursday, Aug. 5.

Arena was brief on Tuesday when asked about signing someone, saying, “Anything is possible, but I wouldn’t bet on it.”

On Jul, 7, Arena told media, “If there’s a player that we can add, we’ll add a player. We’ve been looking. We haven’t yet come up with a player we’re comfortable with.”

One week later he told Elizabeth Pehota, “We’ve been looking at players. There’s one player we’ve been looking at for probably 18 months that we think we may have the opportunity to get signed over the next week or two. If that’s the case, we’ll be pleased. If not, we still believe in our roster.”

As it stands, the Revs will stick with the roster that has them on top of the Supporter’s Shield standings, four points ahead of the Seattle Sounders. Arena is happy with the way his team has performed so far, but recognizes that there are still plenty of games left to play.

“I think we’re in a good position,” Arena said. “However, 17 games is nothing in our league. I think you need to go to about 25 games before you have a good feel for where all the teams in the league are.

“We have a lot of difficult and challenging games ahead, and that’ll help my assessment. But right now, to date, obviously we’ve done well.”
