Andrew Farrell on precipice of New England Revolution history

The New England Revolution defender will likely have the most starts in club history after Sunday’s matchup.

Andrew Farrell is a player that has had his ups and downs, but the New England Revolution defender will likely make history for the club on Sunday.

Farrell was drafted by New England in the first round of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft after spending three years at Louisville. He has gone on to play over 22,600 minutes for the Revs and has two goals, nine assists, and only three red cards in his career.

In 2021, Farrell continues to be a pillar of the back line. While he might not be the most talented center back in New England with Henry Kessler on the roster, the veteran has been someone that Bruce Arena can rely on. Farrell has started every match so far this season and has yet to be subbed off.

When asked about Farrell breaking the club record, Kessler said that he has been helpful in his young career.

He said, “It’s great. Andrew is great. Great guy, great player. He’s relaxed. It brings a different element to the team. He’s obviously very experienced. I think that helps always, especially with younger guys like myself. So, it’s been great to play next to him. He brings different attributes. He can play forward, [is a] really good defender. Obviously, with all the games he’s played, he’s in there for a reason. He’s done really well and he continues to do well, and it’ll be a great moment for him.”

Similar to Kessler, Matt Polster hasn’t been around Farrell for long, but the midfielder said that Farrell has earned everything in his Revolution career.

Polster said, “Farrell. Interesting guy. I absolutely love him. He’s earned everything he’s achieved here. If he starts over the weekend, it’s an achievement he’s worked for his whole career. I’m happy for him, I’ve told him. When he got [MLS] Team of the Week, I shot him a little text. He deserved that. He’s played really well throughout the year. He definitely has put an all-star performance halfway through the year so far. Hopefully he keeps doing his thing and definitely more games to come. He’s just a great character to have on this team and a great leader.”

While some fans might get hung up with his acrobatic clearances and own goals, Farrell can only be described as a club legend. You can’t tell the story of the club without mentioning the center back’s name.
