And about the wildcard race.
Welcome back to another edition of The Over the Monster Podcast. As is the case most every week, it is Matt Collins and Bryan Joiner coming at you to talk about all the latest happenings in the world of the Red Sox. Also as is the case every week, just as a note this was recorded before Tuesday’s game in Seattle.
The crux of this episode was focused on what most everyone recognizes as a growing and concerning problem for the Red Sox on defense. Their glovework has been abysmal in this second half, and it is costing them game after game. We talk about what can be done in both the short- and long-term on that front. There doesn’t really seem to be a great solution, which is a problem in itself. We also talk about some plans for 2022 with the defense as well as who gets what portion of the blame.
In addition to the talk about the defense, we also discuss the wildcard race. Both of us are of the opinion that Toronto is too good to not get one of the spots, so we break down what the race looks like from there. In short, the coming series against the Yankees could go a long way toward deciding this race. There’s also talk about Nick Yorke’s rise up prospect lists, the coming winter for Eduardo Rodriguez, and the decision on who to start should they make the Wildcard Game.
