In the constantly shuffling lineup, vote for who is worst at each position
The first round of All-Star balloting has just closed. Unfortunately, Red Sox fans had very few realistic hometown choices, what with The Trade, and our injury issues. But don’t despair; you can still vote for Red Sox players, and your vote will count!
Welcome to the 2025 Red Sox Fubar ballot.
I come from a military family so I learned the meaning of the word fubar at the dinner table. I’m not sure how well understood it is in popular usage, or even what I’m allowed to say here, but Men’s Health defines it this way:
FUBAR is an acronym that originated in the military, which stands for a situation that is so damaged or out of control that it is “fucked up beyond all recognition,” or alternatively, “fucked up beyond all repair.”
According to Techopedia, FUBAR was popularized by American soldiers during the Second World War…The increasingly prevalent use of FUBAR was possibly influenced back then by the German term “furchtbar,” which translates to “terrible,” and is used to describe a general feeling of abject despair or helplessness.
Despite the exciting win on Saturday, if that doesn’t describe the mood in Red Sox Nation right now, I don’t know what does. Maybe Alex Cora even feels furchtbar while filling out the lineup card.
The Rules
Vote for the Red Sox player who has played the worst at the position this season. For position players, stats (including batting) reflect the player’s achievements while playing that particular position.
To be as fair as possible, I didn’t include players who are currently on the IL, in the minors, or no longer on the team. That eliminated quite a few players (not to mention poor performances). And no position players who happened to pitch were added to the list of pitchers.
Like the All-Star ballot, this system isn’t perfect. Some races are closer than others, and some sample sizes are super small. But hey, that’s baseball. Stats reflect through Friday June 27. All right, let’s get to it. I’ll follow up and publish the results.
