As we turn the page on May and head into June the Red Sox have lost the plot. The baseball world has just recently seen the Atlanta Braves, Minnesota Twins, and (checks notes) the Mike Trout-less Los Angeles Angels go one two-week stretches of success to catapult them back over .500. The frustrating part of this continued .500 team is that Alex Cora saying that all they need is a good run is correct!

The good news for the Red Sox: the Milwaukee Brewers are 26-28. They’ve allowed 237 runs while scoring 232. Boston has allowed more (249) but also scored more (267). Of course, many of those runs were scored on teams with Alex Bregman. Since the Bregman injury the Sox have scored six runs once (win!) and one run twice (both losses). The silver lining is room opened up for Marcelo Mayer.

In 2025 the Brewers offense is largely journeyman Rhys Hoskins. Former star outfielder Christian Yelich is hitting just .205/.294/.364.

Jacksonville Chourio — third place in 2024 Rookie of the Year voting — is slashing just .246/.273/.412 after a .275/.327/.464 debut. Which is a healthy reminder that even if Campbell, Mayer, and Anthony have success this season they might not be done learning the big leagues for the start of 2026.

The Brewers were desperate enough for pitching that they traded for Qui-Gon Quinn Priester earlier in the season. In 7 starts Priester has a 4.23 ERA and 4.65 FIP. No sword through the heart of Red Sox Nation to be missing out on that production when back end starters are what the Sox are flush with.

Probable Pitching Matchups

Monday May 26: Garrett Crochet (1.98 ERA / 2.72 FIP) vs. Chad Patrick (3.23 ERA / 3.44 FIP)

Tuesday May 27: TBD (but maybe though probably not Richard Fitts) (— ERA / — FIP) vs. Aaron Civale (9.00 ERA / 10.80 FIP)

Wednesday May 28: Brayan Bello (4.08 ERA / 4.90 FIP) vs. Freddy Peralta (2.55 ERA / 3.90 FIP)
