Who ended up winning that thing? The Rockies were super hot right?

After a somewhat disappointing 2-3 against the Cincinnati Reds at home, the Red Sox swept the Washington Nationals on the road during a brief three-game trip to D.C.

They return home with a record of 46-45, 6.5 games back in the AL East, and 2.5 games out of a Wild Card. They’re only 3.5 games back of the now second place Yankees who themselves are 3 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays. Life comes at you fast?

Enter the Colorado Rockies. You know, from the 2007 WorldSeries. There’s only ONE Ock-TOE-ber!

Those Colorado Rockies are now in the midst of another historic season. Owners of the worst record in baseball by a mile, Colorado is just 21-69. They crossed the 20 win threshold by going 1-3 against the formidable Chicago White Sox. There wasn’t much joy.

Monday’s pitcher, Austin Gomber, has made 4 starts this season. Over 19.2 innings he’s allowed 12 runs, struck out 6, walked 4, and allowed 4 home runs. Richard Fitts, who had his last start cut short by rain, is still on the hunt for his first MLB win.

Kyle Freeland, who at -0.2 bWAR is something of the staff ace this year, has fallen on hard times since his breakout 2018 campaign where he tossed over 200 innings for an ERA/FIP of 2.86/3.67 and was worth nearly 8 bWAR. That said, since giving up 9 runs to the Detroit Tigers he’s averaged just 3 runs a game over his last 8 starts (about 44 innings). Born in the Rockies debut year of 1993 on May 14, he entered the world to a 13-5 loss to the Reds.

Since the calendar turned to June, Brayan Bello has a 2.97 ERA / 3.97 FIP and is averaging 6 innings and 2 runs per start.

Antonio Senzatela leads the league in losses (12), hits (132 in 86 innings), and wild pitches (8). He didn’t allow an earned run until his third start this year. In fact, in starts of about 4 innings each he blanked the Tampa Bay Rays, New York Mets, Philadelphia Philles, and Washington Nationals. He might run through the lineup a time or so and keep runs off the board. Lucas Giolito, who will likely play as himself agains the Rockies in MLB The Show on Tuesday, will look to keep rolling.

Ryan McMahon Leads the league in strikeouts as a hitter (112).

Catcher Hunter Goodman is living up to his name with a .281/.326/.516 line with 16 home runs.

Left fielder Jordan Beck has 10 homers and 10 steals while slashing .268/.323/.460.
