Birds flock to the basement.
A lot of people believed we had entered the Baltimore Orioles part of the decade. After a long (looooooong) tear down, rebuild, and possible ascension to greatness the O’s are back in the basement of the AL East. And it’s easy to see why.
Yes, the pitching, We’ll get back to that. But first…
The young core has fallen apart. Adley Rutschman has suddenly reminded fans of Matt Wieters. After a down second half in 2024 the young catcher got 2025 going with a bang: two home runs in one game. Well, at the end of May he has just three more homers and is hitting .213 with a .659 OPS.
Ryan Mountcastle is a first baseman with a .590 OPS.
Gunnar Henderson, a career .341 OBP guy is barely getting on base at a .300 clip.
Jackson Holliday, who struggled mightily in his 2024 rookie year…well, he’s actually doing alright hitting .272/.331/.449 with 6 home runs. That might not be what O’s fan were dreaming of for him but it’ll do!
Ryan O’Hearn and Cedric Mullins are having good years but they were supposed to be supplementing that high prospect pedigree core.
Corbin Burnes was acquired to push the rotation over the top….in 2024 and left after the season to pitch for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Charlie Morton finally looks old.
Zach Eflin has been hurt.
Their manager was fired last week.
The Baltimore Orioles are in free fall. This is the time to bank some wins if you’re the Red Sox.
Four games are scheduled but Thursday is expected to be miserable, weatherwise. Doubleheader incoming? Maybe!
