Let’s run up the score
Old and busted: a series with the Minnesota Twins.
New hotness: a series with the Texas Rangers.
We’ve made it to Part 2 of the Red Sox and Rangers this year. Boston, of course, began the season against the Rangers and after winning Opening Day day didn’t do much for a few days. And as Texas comes to town now the Red Sox sit at 18-18 (the mirror image of 81-81) while the Rangers are at 17-18.
While Boston has been in a bit of a bullpen-related rough patch with five one-run losses in their last ten games, things haven’t even been that good for the Rangers.
The Rangers have nine losses on the season where the offense put up zero or one runs. For perspective, Boston has five such losses.
Texas has scored more than five runs on just six occasions. The Sox have done so eleven times.
It’s early May and the team has fired its offensive coordinator (yeah you’re read that one right; I didn’t mix up my sports).

Boone, who put up one monster year in his career in 2001 and the continued for two more years as he played out his age 32, 33, and 34 seasons before crumbling into literal dust and being released by the Seattle Mariners. Owner of José Canseco’s Showtime Car Wash, José Canseco, pointed the PED finger at Boone although he has denied any improper behavior. If the batting gloves don’t fit you must acquit or something.
A non-comprehensive list of other teams to fire their hitting coaches so far this year: the Colorado Rockies.
Anyway, good luck out there, Bret.
