BOSTON — The Red Sox wrapped up their 2024 season on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park.
Boston, which missed the postseason for the third consecutive season, finished the season at 81-81 while Tampa Bay concludes at 80-82.

Boston turned to a young pitcher to finish the season who could develop into a significant arm for the Red Sox moving forward. Quinn Priester came over in a midseason prospect swap that sent Nick Yorke to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Priester made nine starts at Triple-A Worcester while striking out just shy of 10 batters per nine innings. The 24-year-old stepped up for a solid outing in his MLB introduction to the Red Sox, allowing just four hits and one earned run across five innings against the Rays with a pair of strikeouts.
Young starters remain the focus for the Red Sox in the future. Tanner Houck, Brayan Bello and Kutter Crawford each made 30 starts this season for the first time in their careers. Depth such as Richard Fitts and Hunter Dobbins will find more experience eventually and Priester is the next stepping stone to developing pitching in Boston.
