The Boston Red Sox finished a doubleheader and closed out their three-game series with the Minnesota Twins with a 9-3 win on Sunday evening at Fenway Park.

After a decisive 8-1 victory earlier in the afternoon, Boston earned a sweep in the day-night doubleheader with the Twins.

With the win, Boston improved to 78-78 while Minnesota dropped to 81-75.

Check out the full box score here.

ONE BIG TAKEAWAY
Boston’s bats dominated in the afternoon affair at Fenway Park. The Red Sox came to swing again in the nightcap. It just took awhile this time, but Boston did eventually answer the call.

Minnesota starter Zebby Matthews held the Red Sox scoreless without signs of life through four innings. Triston Casas set the tone earlier on Sunday. In the second game, Romy Gonzalez needed just one swing to ignite a fire among the offense with a long, three-run home run to left-center field to give Boston the lead in the fifth inning.

The Red Sox burst through the flood gates an inning later. Ceddanne Rafaela got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to plate the fourth run of the day. Jarren Duran cashed in next with a two-run double to left field to set up another RBI from Gonzalez on a sacrifice fly.

The Red Sox followed up an eight-run, 11-hit performance in Game 1 with a nine-run, 10-hit outing in Game 2 to make the most of a long day at Fenway Park.

STARS OF THE GAME
— Gonzalez became the perfect catalyst for the Red Sox in a four-RBI day. He finished 1-for-4.

— Kutter Crawford kept the Red Sox in striking distance before the offense woke up, striking out seven Twins across 7 2/3 innings of three-run ball.

— Duran heated up Sunday evening after what’s been a relatively cold September (.227 average entering the day) for the Red Sox sparkplug. He scored two runs and drove in two runs.
