The Red Sox can continue their season-long ownership of the Yankees behind Nate Eovaldi this afternoon at a likely jubilant Fenway Park (4:05 p.m. NESN, FS1).
With a couple exceptions, one of them especially dubious, the Sox have pounded their New York neighbors into the ground this year, and I can’t remember ever feeling better about it. The Yankees are nine games back of this writing, a mere four games over .500. Last night Rafael Devers destroyed Gerrit Cole anew for his first homer, then added a second one to center field for good measure. By any measure, the Yankees are trash right now compared to the Sox, and as Eck would say, it’s a beautiful thing.
Nasty Nate starts for Boston, squaring off against Jameson Taillon, which is (again) a clear advantage for the Sox. So is the Sox’s healthy lineup, which features Kevin Plawecki getting in some work and return of Franchy Cordero, who destroyed AAA, to right field. The Yankees still are, as my son would say, “poo and stinky.” Take a look:
