The Boston Red Sox and free agent outfielder Adam Duvall agreed to a one-year, $7 million deal Wednesday morning, according to MLB Network’s Craig Mish.

Red Sox Sign Adam Duvall
Boston has been linked to the 34-year-old outfielder for a few days now. The “Interest Kings” actually got the deal done for the slugger. Duvall will help the Red Sox fill holes in the lineup now that Trevor Story won’t be ready at the start of the season. They may have to move Kike Hernandez to the infield for the time being, so Duvall can fill that spot in the outfield. He could be placed at DH every so often, but he is a great fielder and that should not be put to waste.
Now, the Red Sox will be looking to sign another middle infielder, and maybe another pitcher, to complete their offseason signings. There are still some solid free agents available including; Elvis Andrus, Jose Iglesias, Josh Harrison, and Jonathan Villar. It hasn’t been a completely ideal offseason, but Chaim Bloom did a good job making up for its blunders.
Adam Duvall’s Impact
The theme of the Red Sox offseason so far has not really been focused on big bats. Justin Turner and Masataka Yoshida are great hitters and get on base a lot, but aren’t known for power. Duvall will add some pop to this lineup. His stats show that he struggled last year. In spite of that, he had wrist surgery that resulted in ending his season in mid-July. The year prior with the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves, he led the NL in RBI. On top of that, he hit 38 home runs and was in the 92nd percentile in barrel percentage.
Duvall is not known for getting on base or being disciplined at the plate. However, he makes up for it with not only his power but his fielding too. In 2021 he was in the top 10 percent in outs above average and top 14 percent in sprint speed. Hopefully, Duvall can find his rhythm in Boston after several months of healing. Not to mention the extra $3 million in incentives he can earn if he does well.
