In need of a spark and some injury relief at second base, the Red Sox brought up one of their top prospects Friday from AAA Pawtucket.
Michael Chavis, who had a solid spring and is regarded as one of the best prospects in the Sox farm system, has been working out recently at second base. He and Tsu–Wei Lin were recalled by the Red Sox. In corresponding moves, Eruardo Nunez was placed on the Injured List with a back strain, and the club designated Erasmo Ramirez for assignment.
Chavis, who will wear No. 23 for the Sox, is hitting .250 (10-for-40) in Pawtucket with two doubles and four home runs.
