Red Sox Pitcher Makes History

June 2, 2024 by Last Word On Baseball

Boston Red Sox Pitcher Tanner Houck has made history. He has done so with his impressive ERA performance this season. Houck is the first Red Sox Pitcher with a sub-2 ERA through his first 12 starts. He is the first to accomplish this since Clay Buchholz did in 2013. That season with Bucholz was eclectic for him.

Tanner Houck (1.85 ERA) is the first Red Sox pitcher with a sub-2 ERA through his first 12 starts of a season since Clay Buchholz in 2013.

He’s also the first Red Sox pitcher to allow no more than 1 HR through his first 12 starts of a season since Derek Lowe in 2002.

Pitcher From Red Sox Makes History

But Houck has another impressive stat up his sleeve. He’s also the first Red Sox pitcher to surrender not more than one home run through his first 12 starts since Derek Lowe did in 2002. The Red Sox have certainly been hustling this season, and they’ve continued to make history, with Rafael Devers hitting a home run in six straight games. The Red Sox are currently third in the AL East, but the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays are so close behind in the standings. But the Red Sox also have had solid pitching this season. The AL East division continues to be a close battle and tough division compared to other divisions.

During the season, Houck had a 1.85 ERA and a 5-5 record. He also has 75 strikeouts and a 0.96 WHIP. With his recent success on the mound, there’s been discussion about Houck as a contender for Cy Young. Houck was also successful in his last outing, when the Red Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers, and Houck was a big reason why they won. He had eight strikeouts and surrendered two walks, three hits, and one earned run in a 7-3 victory over the Tigers.

His performance also allowed his ERA to drop to 1.85, which ranks second in the AL. Making his appealing sub-2 ERA the one that other pitchers ought to look out for. Houck is the only pitcher besides Greg Maddux (1997) to record all these stats in their first 12 starts of the season: An ERA less than 0 or 1 home run, a K-to-BB ratio of at least 5-to-1. Houck has a 1.85 ERA, one home run, 75 strikeouts, and 15 walks given up. He’s been clutch for the Red Sox this season as he continues to pitch like an ace. He’s a dominant pitcher on the mound, limiting damage and going deep at every start. He’s an impressive starter, with his ERA now down another five points from 1.90 when he faced the Milwaukee Brewers.
