Red Sox News & Links: When will Fenway host the All-Star Game again?

July 17, 2025 by Over the Monster

Ted Williams

News and notes from around Red Sox Nation.

It’s been 26 years since Fenway Park last hosted an All-Star Game, one which produced three iconic moments: the home run derby featuring a Lansdowne street mosh pit, the announcement of the all-century team featuring a Ted Williams first pitch, and a Pedro Martinez masterclass featuring strikeouts of some of the most feared hitters in history

So when will we get to host again? There are no immediate plans to bring the game back here, but both the Red Sox and Rob Manfred seem eager for the stars to be back in Fenway. (Peter Abraham, Boston Globe)

I’ve got a feeling that, by the time Fenway does host another All-Star Game, Roman Anthony will be playing in it. But for now he’s just taking his time getting comfortable with the big league lifestyle. (Alex Speier, Boston Globe)

What would be nice is if he could get comfortable playing in the World Series. With the Sox getting ready to face the Cubs this weekend, we’ve got a series featuring two teams currently in the postseason bracket. And it’s got people dreaming of a Cubs-Red Sox World Series matchup. (Steve Buckley, The Athletic)

A World Series would raise the pressure not only on the players, but on the ball attendants, too. Here’s an inside look at what it’s like to do that job at Fenway. (Diana Pinzon, WCVB)

But if the Sox are going to make a genuine push for October baseball this year, it will likely require some commitment at the trade deadline from ownership. (Chad Finn, Boston Globe)

The Sox have already added one impactful player via trade: Jorge Alcala, who has been quite good since coming over from the Twins and has his confidence back. (Christopher Smith, MassLive)
