But the Red Sox don’t seem convinced yet.
Yesterday’s seven inning stint against the White Sox was Walker Buehler’s longest start in the big leagues since 2022, despite the fact that his normal routine was thrown off by the early Marathon Monday start. So maybe he should consider staying in a hotel the night before the game and getting to the ballpark at 7:30 in the morning before every start. (Conor Ryan, Boston.com)
Kristian Campbell didn’t change up his routine as much as Buehler did, but he still found success at the plate and was electrified by his first Patriots Day experience. (Christopher Smith, MassLive)
It wasn’t Andrew Benintendi’s first Patriots Day experience, of course, but he still found it special to return to Boston. (Peter Abraham, Boston Globe)
For Bobby Dalbec, who played the first game of his career for a team other than the Red Sox yesterday, the feeling was surreal. (Gabrielle Starr, Boston Herald)
After suffering season-opening injuries two years in a row, Lucas Giolito is still waiting for his first Patriots Day game with the Red Sox. While he’s got 364 days to go for that, he might not be waiting much longer to get back on a big league mound. Giolito told reporters that he feels “ready to go” after his most recent rehab start this past Sunday, when he threw four innings and displayed strong control. But the Sox haven’t made any announcement about when he might make his return to the majors. (Chris Cotillo, MassLive)
But the team doesn’t seem to have any hesitation about Brayan Bello, who will make his 2025 debut tonight against the Mariners. Alex Cora noted that they are especially pleased with his increased velocity and the action on his pitches. (Tom Carroll, WEEI)
