And Alex Cora doesn’t plan to talk to Rafael Devers about moving to first base.
Before Tuesday’s game, Alex Cora said there have been no discussions with Rafael Devers to move to first base. Chris Cotillo followed up asking, “Do you plan to?” which Cora also said “No.” (Chris Cotillo, MassLive)
Cora did say that he’s getting a lot of suggestions via text. It seems that the team is just waiting for Devers, or any veteran, to volunteer to switch to first base for the rest of the year. (Tom Carroll, WEEI)
Lucas Giolito described his outing on Tuesday night as “not doing my job.” His fastball was down from 93.3 to 91.6, he threw two breaking balls the entire outing, and left balls in the middle of the plate all night. “It was terrible,” said Giolito. (Christopher Smith, Mass Live)
At the end of the day, it’s just one bad outing, albeit at a difficult stretch in the season for the team. Giolito spoke with Yahoo Sports about how he wants to contribute to the Red Sox after all the time off. “Last year, you know, Netflix was here, all this stuff’s going on, and I’d be around, and it’s like, ’I’m on the team’ … but I’m not. I haven’t done s***. I like watching the game and learning and analyzing pitching and all the fun stuff like that. But being away from it and not being able to compete, it felt like a piece of me was missing. There were times where it felt a little lonely, or it’s like, ‘What can I do to be helpful?’ (Jordan Shusterman, Yahoo Sports)
Walker Buehler’s shoulder soreness has subsided and the team expects him to be back on May 14, his first eligible day. However, Masataka Yoshida’s shoulder received a cortisone injection on Sunday to see if that can help improve his throwing issues. (Pete Abraham, Boston Globe)
Through six outings at Triple-A, left-hander Shane Drohan has the second-best K% (36%) and the tenth-best ERA in the league (1.90). He is pain-free for the first time since 2023, and his stuff has ticked up since being returned to Boston from the White Sox in the Rule Five draft. (Alex Speier, Boston Globe)
