Not that he’ll even be able to play in the All-Star Game…
We’re not done with the front office deep dives, folks! This one comes from arguably the most respected Red Sox beat reporter there is, and it’s got some new information on the outside audit Craig Breslow initiated, staff reductions, and some awkward team-building exercises. (Alex Speier, Boston Globe)
Craig Breslow also took the airwaves again yesterday and reiterated that he would like to add pieces to the 2025 team before the trade deadline, noting that “we think we’ve got a good chance to make a deep, deep postseason run.” (Scott McLaughlin, WEEI)
Could one of those additions end up being… Kristian Campbell? Obviously the highly-touted rookie struggled mightily in his first taste of big league baseball. But as he works in Worcester to try to regain his form, he’s taking some inspiration from another player who once found himself in a similar position: Mike Trout. (Tim Healey, Boston Globe)
Campbell isn’t the only Red Sox player who has had a disappointing 2025 so far. Connor Wong has as well, and he’s now trying to get to used to being a backup catcher without a lot of playing time. (Chris Cotillo, MassLive)
Until his injury, Alex Bregman certainly was not having a disappointing season. And, even though he won’t return to health until after the All-Star Break, he’s been named as a finalist of the All-Star Game. (Brian Murphy, MLB.com)
2004 World Series champion Mike Timlin never made an All-Star Game in his career, but he’s doing something worth celebrating now. He’s riding in the Pan-Mass Challenge in memory of Tim Wakefield. (Jimmy Golen, Boston.com)
