This was an exciting way to start a new week for Worcester, as they scored three runs in the ninth to walk it off. DeShields won it coming in on a wild pitch. They also had the hit streak for Muñoz extend to 31 games with a three-hit evening. On the pitching side, Seabold was solid in terms of his control of the zone, but he was hit around a bit. He also did hit a batter and throw a wild pitch in this outing, so the control wasn’t quite as good as the one walk would suggest. With the hits, he was not exactly singled to death, giving up three doubles and a homer. Not a terrible start overall, but there were some issues. Meanwhile, Brasier made his first rehab appearance after missing the entire season to this point. Boston desperately needs some help in the bullpen, and while Brasier is a total wildcard at this point there’s some chance he could be the help they need. His rehab will be fascinating to watch, especially if those big-league problems persist.

This was a nice day at the plate for Greenville, who got a couple of home runs from Scott and Dearden (well, one each), both of whom are having nice seasons. Scott had one of the best weeks in the entire system last week, and looks to be carrying that over to this week as well. He now has home runs in four straight games as well. Dearden, meanwhile, has been consistent pretty much all year, and his OPS on the season is now at .921. Unfortunately, Van Belle had a really tough time on the mound, allowing four home runs in the start. After not allowing a run through the entire month of July, he’s allowed 10 over 8 1⁄3 innings to start August.

This was a thriller of a game, with Salem crawling back in the ninth to score three runs and tie it up before allowing Fredricksburg to turn around and walk it off in the bottom half. On the negative end of things, Wu-Yelland had a really tough game as his command was off in this one. He’s been on a bit of a rollercoaster all season, and it’s really hard to be sure how to feel about him at this point. The stuff is there, but even before this season it seemed he was better suited for relief. I certainly wouldn’t make that switch now, to be clear, but I do still believe that is his future. More positively from this game, Yorke stayed absolutely scorching at the plate with a three-hit day. He’s now working on a 19-game hit streak, and in August he’s hitting .522/.621/1.000.

The big story from this game was Mayer picking up the first hit of his pro career with a single. We also saw the pro debut for Kavadas, who did draw a walk but did not add a hit. That said, the real star of the day was Cepeda, who led the way in that second game. Signed out of the Dominican in 2017, he’s a little bit old for the level and had actually spent 2019 on the complex as well, when he pitched to a 6.16 ERA. The 21-year-old (this is his age-20 season, however) has a 5.54 ERA so far this season, striking out 13 and walking 12 over 13 innings of work.
