The Red Sox bullpen is obviously having some major issues right now, as they were performing well below where the needed them to be for much of August and now they have lost significant pieces from the unit that have hit the COVID list. They’ve called upon some reinforcements from Worcester, but we saw a couple in Triple-A that could have more upside. Bazardo, to be fair, is just coming back form injury so they probably don’t want to rush him right back to the majors. That is fair. But with Feltman, we’re talking about a high-upside arm who is Rule 5 eligible this winter. He seems like a prime candidate to be chosen in that draft anyway — he’s got a 3.05 ERA on the year with 54 strikeouts and 14 walks over 44 1⁄3 innings, and those numbers are actually better since he was promoted to Triple-A — so getting him up on the 40-man now wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. He’s certainly not the difference-maker for this team, but they could use some upside in the bullpen, and Feltman to me seems like the best candidate for that.

It has mostly been a rough year for Shugart, a righty who has always had some talent though if I’m being honest I never really saw how it all fit together. But he’s turning it on here right at the end of his season. The run total here wasn’t great, and he did give up a homer, but he’s got 14 strikeouts without a walk over his last two outings, spanning 10 innings. That’s hard to argue with. Offensively, there was nothing going on, except for Yorke of course. He doesn’t take nights off apparently.
