Friday was an eventful day for the Worcester roster, with a handful of players being called up to the team before this game, including both Seabold and Feltman. The former is coming back from an injury and just finished his rehab, but struggled a bit here. Those four walks are not great, but he also did not get helped out by his defense, which made four errors on the day. Meanwhile, Feltman got hit around a bit in his Triple-A debut, giving up a double and a home run. That home run did come in his first inning of work, though the other two runs came in the second frame. If he closes out this season well in Worcester he’ll be a very interested name to keep in mind this winter with Rule 5 consideration.

After having their 15-game win streak snapped on Thursday, Portland came from behind on Friday to start a new streak with a 10-inning win. But we have to start on the negative side here, with Bello being pulled after just an inning. While it is trade season so that could raise some eyebrows, I believe that early exit was just due to a rain delay at Hadlock. Other than that, it was a big day at the plate for Pereda, who hasn’t really had a whole lot of standout days this season for Portland. Meanwhile, Gomez had a huge performance out of the bullpen while Scherff had a very rare tough outing.

If I’m being perfectly honest, I’m not really sure how Greenville won this game as they managed just three hits on the day. One reason is Shugart, who was very good in this one. It’s been a bit of a deceiving year for the righty, whose ERA is sitting at 5.83 on the season, but his 53 strikeouts and 16 walks over 58 2⁄3 innings are a bit better than that. Shugart has had two terrible outings over his last six weeks or so that have really blown his ERA out of whack. At the plate, Cannon had a nice day, which is particularly nice to see just a day after having to leave early due to injury.

The Red Sox have had their fair share of prospects come up with big seasons almost out of nowhere this year, which I think has led to Wu-Yelland’s year kind of flying under the radar a bit. The fourth round pick from 2020 still isn’t really going deep into games, and thus the bullpen concerns are still there, but he’s got a 3.32 ERA with 53 strikeouts and 43 1⁄3 innings. He’s been a little more inconsistent of late, but he has been showing an ability to bounce back from tough outings. At the plate, Northcut is also sneakily having a good year. He needs to figure out how to make more contact, but right now his patience and power is playing against Low-A pitching.

After dropping their first five games, this FCL squad has been on a roll, winning nine of their last 10. And it’s been the offense carrying the group, and today it was Jordan leading the way. The team’s third-round pick in 2020, signing an overslot deal, got off to a rocky start here in his first taste of professional ball, but he’s been swinging a better bat of late. He’s got at least one hit in each of his last five games including back-to-back multi-hit days. Similarly, Bonaci has looked much better over the last week or so after a tough start atop this lineup.

While it was a tough day for the Red squad down in the DSL, the Blue team had a second straight big day at the plate, scoring 10 runs with only six chances at the plate. This time, Chacon did get in on the action, while Zapete and Salazar continue to have big starts to their season. Both players have OPS’s over 1.000, though Zapete at 19 years old is a bit older than many in this league, and he has a year of experience under his belt, which most don’t. Still, he’s hitting well enough that he could get a chance up in the FCL if some playing time opens up there.
