But, uh, Happy Sale Day?

The Red Sox, or what’s left of them, try desperately to get on the board against the Rays behind Chris Sale tonight in St. Pete (7:10 p.m., NESN).

The Red Sox made more moves before Wednesday’s game, shown below.

López, who played with Triston Casas for Team USA at the Olympics, will be making his major-league debut and starting at second base in this game.

As if things weren’t bad enough heading into yesterday’s game, which the Sox lost, of course, Xander Bogaerts was pulled early on because of a positive COVID-19 test, which means he, like so many others, is unavailable for today’s game against the mighty Drew Rasmussen. At least they’ll have Sale, who hasn’t yet lost this season and who was, with Bobby Dalbec and Garrett Whitlock, one of three things worth watching in an August to forget.

But that was yesterday and this is today. September is here and maybe a Turning Point is here. Probably not, because a third of the team has the literal plague, but you can’t predict baseball now can you? I mean if you can please tell me how this ends so we can go about our lives, but I was mostly speaking rhetorically. Still, you know where to find me.

Here are the full lineups:
