The Sox avoid a fifth straight loss with a stirring comeback capped off by Rafael Devers’ first ever walkoff home run.
The Red Sox were all set to got run off the field tonight against the Braves on national television, pushing them to their fifth straight loss and a supremely disappointing 22-25 record on the year, until they weren’t, and a stirring late comeback was capped off by a Rafael Devers walkoff dinger, leaving the team elated and one game under .500 headed into Sunday’s rubber game. Giddyup!
Three Studs
Rafael Devers
Not much to argue with here, as our DH walked it off with a donger for the first time in his career:
Jarren Duran
Hit a homer, had the double to tie the game in the eighth, threw a Alex Fuckin’ Verdugo out at home, stirred a seventh-inning rally and did all the things he’s been doing for more than a full season now. This game would have been as dead as a doornail without him.
Alex Bregman
His two-run double helped stir the comeback, moving the score from 6-2 to 6-4.
Three Duds
Lucas Giolito
We don’t want to be that guy/those guys, but it was very bad out there early, as Giolito gave up six runs over four innings, including three in the first.
Kristian Campbell
He went 0-4 and sometimes that just happens, even to our better players.
Wilyer Abreu
He went 0-4 and sometimes that just happens, even to our better players.
