That’s a brutal pill to swallow.
Seriously? This is how the roadie ends? What a waste of a spectacular outing by Tanner Houck. What is going on with this Red Sox team and blowing both late leads and one-run leads? They’re 3-4 in one-run games now and have blown two straight games late. Yesterday’s was ridiculous after being up 6-0, and tonight’s was harsh when the game was so close. The Blue Jays have the bullpen’s number, and that’s not great when dealing with a division opponent.
A 3-3 record on the road trip isn’t going to cut it. A lot of home games in May are bound to help.
Three Studs
Tanner Houck (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 6 K)
Genuinely one of the best outings of the season for Houck, if not the best one. Multiple three and four batter innings, the 7th was frankly his only difficult frame but he worked himself out of it.
Alex Bregman (1-for-4, 2 RBI)
Absolutely clutch to come up with a two-run double with the bases loaded to break the deadlock in the 5th.
Us Fans
We’re rockstars for having to endure back-to-back debilitating losses to the Blue Jays of all teams.
Three Duds
Justin Slaten (1.0 IP, loss, blown save, 3 ER, 1 BB)
A walk, a double and a golfed three-run blast to Vladdy Jr. When Slaten is on, he’s unhittable. When it’s not working, his stuff is low and located poorly. The homer was on a swooping curveball Vlad could sit back and hammer.
Wilyer Abreu (0-for-4, 1 K)
Hey, not every Gold Glover is perfect. That was a rough play to mistrack Bo Bichette’s double in the 8th. He also didn’t contribute tonight at the dish.
Triston Casas (1-for-4, 2 Ks)
…is he ok? Should I be really worried?
Play of the Game
Bregman’s double was the only offense of the night, but I have to give this to Tanner Houck’s performance as a whole, he needed this badly.
