For flying so high, the Giants finally knocked us down.
The Boston Red Sox had a very good homestand! Could they end it on a high note or would the Giants make them feel small?
Key Moments
B1: A Chance Missed
Ducks on the pond, a chance to make a big impact early in your Red Sox tenure…and you pop out easily to right field. A theme of the day!
B3: O’Neill Delivers!
After giving up a run in the top of the frame, Rafael Devers singles to set up Tyler O’Neill’s wall-scraping RBI double off the Monster. Look at Raffy chug around the bases to score!
B3: Coopah Again
Cooper steps up with a chance to give the Red Sox a lead…5-3 double play to one of the more athletic third basemen in the league. That’s the last time in this game the Sox has more than one runner on base.
B4: Lee Giveth, Lee Taketh
First, Jung Hoo Lee giveth. He absolutely loses this high fly ball off the bat of Ceddanne Rafaela, who scampers into second base with a double. Lee had to have felt awful about that.
Then Lee taketh. What a masterful dive to rob Jarren Duran of most likely extra bases—and more importantly, the go-ahead run—in the fourth.
T7: Out Of Reach
After a strong sixth, Zach Kelly falls apart in the seventh and that’s pretty much all she wrote.
Three Studs
Tyler O’Neill (1-for-2, 1 RBI, 2 BB)
How about the OBP machine continuing to do what he does? After today, his slash line is .309/.429/.667!
Naoyuki Uwasawa (2.0 IP, 1 K)
What a debut for the call-up from Worcester! I know he wasn’t pitching well in AAA, but two clean innings late in a two-run game is pretty much all you can ask for when you want to keep your club in it to win it. He also got his first MLB strikeout!
Ceddanne Rafaela (1-for-4, 1 K)
If I had to put someone else on here, it’ll be the only other guy who had more than one total base in this one.
Three Duds
Zach Kelly (0.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, loss)
That was…not a great outing for Kelly. Three singles in a row to start the 7th and a short leash from Cora.
Garrett Cooper (1-for-4)
He did get a hit, but none when it mattered and could have given the Sox a lead.
Zach Short (0-for-3, 2 Ks)
He came up short for me today. Plain and simple.
Play of the Game
T3: Yaz Goes Yabo
How could this not be the play of the game? Red Sox legend (and grandfather) Carl was there to visit his grandson and to have mom and grandma watch him go yard, that’s special.
