Minor Lines 7/11: Blaze Jordan key in close win

3-for-4 with two RBI’s for the young first baseman.

Can this team lose????? Whereas a month ago I was wondering how the Red Sox would find a way to drop a game with a lead, now, the late innings are appointment viewing for a different reason. Most of the farm fared the same in close games. Let’s get into it!

Worcester: W, 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

After Robert St—I mean, the WooSox pitching staff, giving up fourteen runs to the Red Wings (Nationals AAA) the field had a much easier night following a six-hit scoreless performance by Cooper Criswell and a 11-out hold from Tyler Uberstine, although the game was very close to being a contest once again in the ninth, before Jose Adames closed the door. Offensively, Blaze Jordan was the difference-maker Friday night. The WooSox had just six hits, and Blaze Jordan got three on his own with a pair of RBI’s, and also started a double play with no outs.

Portland: W, 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Portland snuck one by the Yard Goats (Rockies AA) despite not scoring a run until the fifth or after the sixth. Ahbram Liendo made it a one-run game in the fifth with a two-run shot and the Sea Dogs struck twice in the sixth to pull ahead. The save was made possible by eight outs of hitless ball by Jack Anderson, but David Sandlin’s 6 1⁄3 innings set up this win, as he struck seven out in that time, and most importantly, kept that ball in the park.

Greenville: W, 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Noah Dean got pulled in the first, but Cooper Adams went four scoreless and that gave the Drive enough of a window to tag the Dash (White Sox High-A) for five runs in four innings. Albert Feliz crushed his second home run in a week and Franklin Arias again had multiple RBIs via a soft line drive in the fourth. It wasn’t a pretty win due to some late mishaps by Iggy Suarez probably keeping Manuel Medina in too long, but it was a win.

Salem: L, 0-2 (F/7) (BOX SCORE)

The rain was too much to navigate — first pitch wasn’t until 9 PM and was called after just seven innings. For Salem, the Augusta (Braves A) pitcher, 19-year-old Rayven Antonio, was too much to navigate. Starlyn Nunez’s double was one of two hits the Red Sox got all night, and, until Salem threatened with men on second and third via some walks and an advanced runner via a groundout, Nunez was the only runner to be in scoring position. Still, Antonio finished the Red Sox in the top of the seventh and the game was called at 10:30. Nate Ehrlicher didn’t fare too badly, either, going four scoreless with seven strikeouts, but when your team is facing a guy they can’t hit, what can you do?

Have a happy Saturday!
