Worcester played a wild game against the Red Wings (WAS) on Thursday, coming back from an early 6-2 deficit. Robert Stock was hit hard and didn’t make it past the second inning, giving way to Jose De Leon. The Woo Sox went back ahead thanks to RBI doubles from Trayce Thompson and Nathan Hickey, followed by a go-ahead three run bomb from Kristian Campbell. For Hickey, it was part of a three-hit day, and for Campbell, it was his first home run since being demoted from Boston.

Unfortunately, the pitching could not hold the lead as De Leon and Bryan Mata allowed three runs apiece in relief. Jhostynxon Garcia, Trayce Thompson, and Vaughn Grissom each contributed two hits in a 13-hit effort for the team.
Cooper Criswell (2-1, 3.20) will take the hill for Worcester on Friday at 6:45.

Payton Tolle got the ball on Thursday and continued his ascent up the prospect rankings by throwing five more strong innings, with five strikeouts. Tolle now has 101 strikeouts between two levels over 63 2⁄3 innings, good for a preposterous 39.5 K%. He is menacing on the mound, and I would be terrified to face him as a left-handed hitter.

Salem Red Sox 1, Augusta GreenJackets 0 (BOX) Game 2, 8 Inn.

Salem scored one run against Augusta (ATL), with that run being the extra-innings ghost runner, over 15 innings on Thursday, and amazingly came away from the doubleheader with a split.
In Game One, Devin Futrell fired 4 innings and got a tough luck loss, allowing one earned run. Jay Allmer threw two shutout innings in relief. Salem was shutout on three hits.
In Game Two, a 0-0 game went into extra innings with dominant pitching from Yhoiker Fajardo and Calvin Bickerstaff for Salem. They combined for eight shutout innings, allowing just four hits. Fajardo had struggled since his promotion to Salem, so this was a very encouraging outing.
In the eighth inning, designated hitter Andrew Mussett singled in Yohander Linarez to give Salem the victory.
Austin Ehrlicher (3-3, 3.54) gets the ball for Salem on Friday night at 7:05.
