Minor Lines 6/13: The bats were cursed

A rough hitting night all across the board in the organization, ruining a spectacular start by Blake Aita.

On a Friday the 13th night on the farm, the affiliates were a very spooky 0-4 on the day – and most by a Red Sox special, losing by one run. Let’s get right into it!

Worcester: L, 3-4 (F/10) (BOX SCORE)

Following a pretty decent outing from Jose DeLeon, who went five innings allowing just two runs, the WooSox were in pretty good shape in Lehigh Valley (Phillies AAA). You might even think they might pull off an extra-inning win after getting just four hits in the first nine innings of the game, but that should have been an indicator that the run they received in the tenth was earned via a fielding error followed by a double play. Isaiah Campbell allowed two hits for the IronPigs to walk it off. The WooSox’s only extra-base hit on the evening came from Blaze Jordan’s seventh double since his promotion just a couple of weeks ago.

Portland: L, 1-4 (BOX SCORE)

The SeaDogs were also slumbering at the plate, managing just three hits down in Somerset, NJ (Yankees AA), two of which came off the bat of Zach Ehrhard. It’s cool to see the team’s identity form around the Ehrhard brothers, and I hope both of them succeed. Chad Epperson, realizing the futility of the night after Ehrhard’s lead-off home run, rid Jonathan Brand for four innings in relief, and Brand allowed the four deciding runs, including what would be the go-ahead run in the fifth.

Greenville: L, 0-1 (BOX SCORE)

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: starting pitching was DEALING on Friday night but was forced into a bad situation due to poor run support. Blake Aita allowed just one Renegades (Yankees High-A) hit in six innings and was saddled with the decision loss because the Drive also hit Hudson Valley pitching just twice. The one through five spots in the lineup went 0-for-17 with 8 strikeouts. The good news for any Red Sox fans who may have been in the Hudson Valley watching this one (hey, they exist! Ask Brian Joyner!) was that the game was finished in just 2 hours and 8 minutes.

Salem: L, 3-4 (F/10) (BOX SCORE)

Salem fared a little better at the plate then every single one of their counterparts including the Major League squad, because they at least hit .250 (2-for-8) with runners in scoring position and got five hits, but the save was blown late in the game and Delmarva (Orioles A) also walked it off with two outs on Manuel Medina, who, to his credit, had been on for two full innings and was looking for a seventh out. Salem, who held a 74% expected winning percentage with two runners on and two outs in the 10th, were just a victim to circumstance in this one.

Have a happy Saturday!
