Bad pun aside, the recent promotions have allowed some new grounds (another bad pun) to travel across the farm.
Still sticking with me in the minor lines even though all three of last year’s hot prospects (well, actually, four, since even Chicago brought up Kyle Teel) have been promoted? Well, if you’re here for Blaze Jordan, he had a multi-hit game. So, too, did a certain other prospect, a catcher that I want the organization to take a look at as a Major League player. Let’s get into it!
Worcester: W, 8-1 (BOX SCORE)

Isaac Coffey is up in Worcester, and he steered the ship steadily against the IronPigs (Phillies AAA), allowing just a home run as the only hit on the day. It was easy to navigate around that start, as Nate Eaton and Tyler McDonough both hit home runs and the WooSox enjoyed some multiple-hit batters — Nick Sogard, Blaze Jordan, Nathan Hickey, and Blake Sabol, to be exact. The more I see catchers like Nathan Hickey hit for power in the Worcester lineup (he has nine home runs this season, and can play first base) the less I want to see Connor Wong in a Major League uniform. Also, look at Password being patient and drawing two walks on an otherwise quiet night!
Portland: L, 8-1 (BOX SCORE)

From an 8-1 win to an 8-1 loss down in Somerset (Yankees AA). The Sea Dogs had just six hits on four baserunners on the night, and they were spread out in the lineup, so the only RBI was via another catcher doing his job at the bottom of the lineup, driving in Zach Ehrhard who had a multiple-hit night and is mildly adjusting to AA hitting. David Sandlin had an off-night but still went five innings, and Zach’s brother Drew, an outfielder, got some pitching time in the blowout, in an effort to preserve some arms for the rest of the week.
Greenville: L, 1-2 (BOX SCORE)

Jovani Moran is officially rehabbing that Tommy John repaired arm down in Greenville following some FCL appearances. He didn’t make it out of the first in the Hudson Valley (Yankees High-A), but it’s good to see him throwing again. After Peyton Tolle came in relief and struck out eight in five innings, it would have been nice to get some offense going, but the only run came from a Freili Encarnacion home run. It was his twelfth of the season and second since being promoted. Also, note Johanfran Garcia (Password’s brother) getting some DH at-bats after an injury of his own.
Salem: L, 4-5 (BOX SCORE)

Salem struck out eleven but the five walks hurt them as they allowed an eighth-inning comeback in Delmarva (Orioles A) and ultimately fell. At the plate, eight of their nine batters collected a hit, but it wasn’t quiet a death by a thousand papercuts method, because the hits all came scattered. The hot play of the game was Natanel Yuten getting a triple on a fly to center, but he wasn’t driven in. Salem drops to 22-34 on the season.
Have a happy Wednesday, see you tomorrow!
