Two home runs from the catcher who has all but been forgotten with Carlos Narvaez’s play.

Worcester: W, 6-4 (BOX SCORE)

The WooSox, having just six hits and six runs on the night, would have almost certainly lost had Blake Sabol taken the night off. Sabol ripped two late home-runs, including an extra-innings, two-outs, bases loaded bomb to score Marcelo Mayer, Nick Sogard and Vaughn Grissom, which would be referred to as the Holy Trinity on most other ballclubs (or if I wasn’t so sure that Roman Anthony’s potential accomplishments outclass any of those players). The four-run frame withheld a Wyatt Mills mini-meltdown, as did Josh Winckowski’s effective first six innings, in which he gave up just a hit and a run. But, no, seriously… Sabol happens to know first base, Also seriously following this weekend’s bullpen debacle: Nick Burdi’s ERA remains significantly under 1 as does his WHIP.
Portland: PPD/Rain (Make Up Today)
Greenville: L, 2-4 (BOX SCORE)

After a little bit of a slump, relatively speaking, Franklin Arias had three hits including a double. Yophery Rodriguez and Nazzan Zanetello couldn’t plate him, though, going 1-for-10 with four strikeouts between them. Matt McShane pitched the eighth against Rome (Braves High-A) and still has not allowed a run this season, but he did so in a low-leverage role, as Eduardo Rivera took the decision loss in this one despite solid four innings of work in which he struck out six but allowed two runs.
Salem: L, 4-5 (BOX SCORE)

Despite a strong start, scoring four in the first three innings in Fayetteville (Astros A), Salem was a victim of their three defensive errors on the night, the third of which, with two outs, cost them the tying and winning runs. Yoelin Cespedes, the perpetrator of the errant throw, also had the golden sombrero in the leadoff spot, striking out four times alongside Yosander Asencio; the team had a total of 15 Ks Tuesday. Twenty-year-old Freili Encarnacion, who has played every position (yes, even first) was one of few bright spots in this loss, hitting his fifth home run of the season to initially put Salem up.
Have a happy Wednesday!
