The WooSox came from six runs down in the 8th to win.
The opposite day version of whatever happened to the Red Sox last night in Detroit happened in Portland. And, well, wouldn’t you know, Marcelo Mayer drove in Roman Anthony to also drive away with a win. That’s a line we’re hoping to hear for years to come… after we figure out whatever THIS is up in Boston. Let’s get into Tuesday’s action.
Worcester: W, 10-7 (BOX SCORE)

This was a topsy-turvy game where the lead exchanged hands several times, and the WooSox needed nine runs in the final two innings of this one to seal the Bisons (Blue Jays AAA) away after falling behind 7-1 in the late-going. The WooSox had thirteen hits, none more important than a home run by – of course – Marcelo Mayer. If you’ve been looking for a reason to fit Mayer in the 26-man roster, look away:
Oh, and of course one of the men who scored on that three-run shot was none other than Roman Anthony. And don’t look now, but if you’re a fan of manipulating service time (ha, ha) Nate Eaton, versatile as is he is in the field, grabbed two hits of his own tonight and is approaching the .300 batting average mark.
Also, if you’re a fan of the bullpen blowing leads, don’t look: Nick Burdi is still scoreless since April 17 and has allowed just a run all season. His brilliant campaign continued Tuesday as he struck out three of the four batters he faced, walking one but keeping him at first.
Portland: PPD, Rain (Make up Thursday)
Portland will now play their fifth double-header in 15 days.
Greenville: W, 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Greenville staved off a late rally by Hub City (Rangers Triple-A), a team that bit itself earlier in the game with three defensive errors and maanged just two hits. Yophery Rodriguez, for the record, matched that total himself. The fate of this game may have been a non-issue late, though, if any of Greenville’s six hits were an extra-base hit, but luckily Franklin Arias cranked a 2-run RBI in way back the bottom of the 3rd to end the scoring on the night for Greenville and make the score 4-0.
Salem: L, 0-6 (BOX SCORE)

One of these teams was bound to be shut out Tuesday; as it turns out, it was Salem against the Riverdogs (Rays A), who held the 1 through 5 batters in Salem’s lineup to an 0-for-17 night. Salem’s lineup in its entirety managed just five baserunners, and while two steals put men in scoring position twice, technically, no one was in any situation of actually scoring when the lineup hits like this.
Have a happy Wednesday! Go C’s.
