According to Jeff Passan on X, Garrett Crochet and the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a six-year extension worth $170 million. While it seemed like they were going to “table” contract talks heading into the regular season, that is no longer the case.
Red Sox Extend Crochet
The contract will commence when his rookie contract is up, which is after the 2026 season. It will go until after the 2032 season, and he’ll have an opt-out after the 2030 campaign. Garrett Crochet surpasses Jacob deGrom for the largest deal for a pitcher with 4+ years of MLB service. deGrom got his Mets’ extension back in 2019, signing a five-year, $137.5 million extension.
Garrett Crochet is among the many Red Sox acquisitions in the 2024 offseason, along with Alex Bregman and Walker Buehler…and he’s been a great asset to them so far. His first start this season was a good one for Opening Day. He recorded 4 Ks and only two walks in six innings against the Rangers last Thursday. In the early innings, he utilized his breaking pitches more, fooling hitters like Marcus Semien, Josh H. Smith, and Corey Seager. While giving up only two runs in the game, the Red Sox also won. Albeit Crochet didn’t pick up that win, that was the only victory the Red Sox have recorded this season so far.
Garrett Crochet is starting tomorrow in Baltimore with a big weight lifted off his shoulders and a completely different mindset. He’ll be trying to pick up the Red Sox’s second victory this season, while also trying to shift their momentum to the win column. Now, it’s not to show credibility and find a place to stay. His goal is now to win a World Series in Boston and, hopefully, to bring their 10th championship in franchise history.
