Incumbent Patriots long snapper Joe Cardona exited Sunday’s practice.

The New England Patriots have signed long snapper Brian Khoury to the 90-man roster, as first reported by Jim McBride of the Boston Globe on Monday.

The addition comes on the heels of incumbent Joe Cardona exiting Sunday’s practice with an undisclosed injury that left tight end Jonnu Smith and defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. handling snapping duties. A two-time Super Bowl champion, Cardona has appeared in every game for New England since arriving from Navy in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL draft.

Khoury, 29, went undrafted out of Division III Carnegie Mellon in 2017. He set a school record with 29.5 sacks during his stay, also totaling four forced fumbles and three blocked kicks on the way to becoming a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award and an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Star.

After playing in five games with the XFL’s DC Defenders as a defensive end and long snapper in 2020, Khoury signed with the Baltimore Ravens in March. He was waived in May.

The Patriots officially waived quarterback Jake Dolegala in a corresponding move, according to the transaction wire.
