You can take the Rob Gronkowski out of the Gronk, but you can’t take the Gronk out of Rob Gronkowski.
The former New England Patriots tight end was at Fenway Park on Monday as a guest to throw out the first pitch in the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Guardians game. There was a certain level of intrigue as Gronkowski stood on the mound and stared down the catcher.
What kind of throw was he going to attempt? Was it going to be a traditional fastball? A curveball? Or, would Gronkowski actually get fancy and show off a splitter or change-up?
To the live crowd’s surprise, it was none of the traditional baseball throws.
Instead, the four-time Super Bowl champion spiked the ball into the dirt.

It was an epic first pitch from the greatest tight end in NFL history. The Gronk spike on a baseball diamond is the one thing we didn’t realize we needed until it actually happened.
