Top 5 Trade Fits For “Not Happy” Star Receiver

July 9, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The Washington Commanders and Terry McLaurin are still nowhere close to a contract extension, and a trade becomes more likely with every passing day. A third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, McLaurin established himself as one of the league’s better receivers despite lacking reliable quarterback play before 2024. Last year with Jayden Daniels, the wide receiver recorded 82 receptions for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns while helping the team make the NFC Championship Game.

Now entering his age-30 season, McLaurin wants a new contract and reportedly is “not happy” with the organization, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. If Washington and Terry McLaurin cannot come to an agreement, then the team could trade the perennial 1,000-yard receiver to the following five teams.

Terry McLaurin “Not Happy,” Commanders Could Trade Him

New England Patriots

Mike Vrabel added several key players to the offense during his first year as New England’s head coach, but he hasn’t filled every hole on this roster. Demario Douglas is a fine slot receiver, rookie Kyle Williams has promise, and veteran Stefon Diggs is a high-risk, high-reward signing coming off an injury. A Terry McLaurin trade would add some much-needed security to this room, and his style of play should be a natural match for Maye’s rocket arm.

Los Angeles Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh likes to win games with a strong rushing game, but he’ll need another receiver to keep up with teams like the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, and Baltimore Ravens. Ladd McConkey is the real deal, but pulling off a Terry McLaurin trade would give Justin Herbert the weapons required to go blow for blow with any offense in the league.

Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans believe they selected their next franchise quarterback in first-overall pick Cam Ward. However, if they want him to reach his potential, they must add another reliable wide receiver. Calvin Ridley is a good player, but he can’t do it all on his own. With no established WR2 on the roster, Terry McLaurin can give Ward two reliable targets and increase his odds of developing into a franchise-changing force.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are going all-in for the 2025 season. Even though they’ve already acquired Aaron Rodgers, Jalen Ramsey, and D.K. Metcalf, reports indicate the team is still looking for more big-name help. A Terry McLaurin trade would be a perfect way for Mike Tomlin to show he’s not content with Wild Card exits, and the present-day version of Aaron Rodgers likely needs two above-average wide receivers to take this team on a deep playoff run.

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers have several young, high-ceiling wide receivers in rookie Tetaiora McMillan, Xavier Legette, and Jalen Coker. What they don’t have, however, is much experience at the position, as Adam Thielen is the only veteran receiver of note on the roster. With Thielen much closer to the end of his career than the beginning, head coach Dave Canales could upgrade the position with one of the game’s better receivers. Bryce Young showed legitimate promise last year, and giving him a star like McLaurin could help the team win a weak NFC South.
