
The NFL community learned Tuesday night that former quarterback Ryan Mallett passed away. He was just 35 years old.
According to reports, Mallett died in a drowning accident in Florida. The Arkansas product was transported to a local hospital before being pronounced dead.
Mallett, a former All-SEC quarterback, started his career with the Patriots as a third-round pick. He had the chance to learn from Tom Brady for three seasons.
On Tuesday night, Brady reacted to the news of Mallett’s death with a heartfelt message.
“We lost a great man. Thank you for everything Ryan,” Brady wrote on Instagram. “Praying for the Mallett family and all their loved ones tonight.”
Mallett’s first NFL head coach, Bill Belichick, also released a statement on this heartbreaking situation.
“I am extremely saddened by Ryan’s tragic passing,” Belichick said. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the many people whose lives he touched.”
