Three Top Suitors for Former Patriots Legendary Coach

January 14, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Football

Bill Belichick Rumors

After 24 seasons and six Super Bowls, the legendary Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are officially parting ways. The Bill Belichick rumors are heating up, some teams are rumored to be in line to pick up the phone for Belichick. At age 71, he has the opportunity to continue coaching if he wants to. He finishes his Patriots career with 266 regular season wins and 30 playoff victories, most in franchise history.

Belichick is rumored to be linked to the Commanders or the Falcons as potential landing spots. However, another says Washington is not expected to pursue the head coach after the Patriots. Times have changed ever since Josh Harris took over ownership of Washington. The Dallas Cowboys are surprisingly the sleeper to make a move after the postseason.

It’s unclear where Belichick will go from here, making times like these spicy during playoff time. The team will look to get a complete makeover under their belts with this potential acquisition, wherever that may be. Here are the potential suitors for the long-time head coach who will be in line this season.

Bill Belichick will want to continue coaching and is expected to draw interest from at least some of the other seven NFL teams that currently have head coach vacancies, quite possibly the Atlanta Falcons, per league sources.

Bill Belichick Rumors: Three Potential Suitors Emerge

Dallas Cowboys

Yes, folks you’ve read that right. The Cowboys could be one to make a call to Belichick if their playoff dreams end up in a mishap. It’s unlikely that Jerry Jones will pull the trigger to make that happen. Barring any circumstance from a blowout they receive in the postseason, Mike McCarthy’s job seems to be safe, for now.

Jones declined to commit to McCarthy as future head coach beyond the playoffs, later reversing course. Now, he couldn’t have commented and tried to back it up later without any intention. This could just be a speculation game, but you never know if Jones has some tricks up his sleeve. It could truly come down to how the playoffs play out.

It could be a sweet deal for Dak Prescott, who is looking for a contract extension. The Cowboys may focus on getting their lineup back to new deals but they could start fresh with Belichick. His success with Tom Brady during his career with the Patriots, obviously makes him a favorite. He could be the one to get the Cowboys back to the promised land with his experience.

Atlanta Falcons

It is unlikely that Belichick would want to start completely over in Atlanta. This may or may not be true, but this would give him a huge reset. The Falcons recently released Arthur Smith after being unable to create an offense that won more than seven games in three seasons. Atlanta owner Arthur Blank could be running out of patience and wants to win now, they could lay the hammer on contacting Belichick.

It’s an obvious win for any team to get Belichick as their coach. However, Atlanta’s next quarterback will need some mentoring, and Belichick is the perfect fit for that role. He could get the quarterback situation under control and develop a unique system.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers have never won the Super Bowl, making Belichick an enticing candidate to help with that. Quarterback Justin Herbert established himself as one of the top passers in the game. With Belichick’s mentorship, he could be elite enough to finally complete his quest for his first ring. It might be a reach but it’s a no-brainer for Los Angeles to become a championship team finally.
