The Patriots Are Reportedly “Livid” Following Player’s Arrest

New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones faces multiple gun charges after getting arrested for allegedly possessing two loaded firearms in his carry-on luggage at Boston Logan International Airport.

Jones arrived at Boston District Court on Tuesday morning to be arraigned. Along with significant legal trouble, the 25-year-old must deal with his team’s ire.

“The team is understandably and obviously livid over the situation,” The Athletic’s Jeff Howe told 98.5 The Sports Hub. “Putting himself in a position like this is at any time of year, but really like after breaking minicamp and all that stuff, it’s just… they’re livid.”

Howe continued that he’d be “very, very surprised” if Jones remained with the Patriots. He could receive over 30 years of prison time if convicted and sentenced consecutively on each charge, but Howe laid out a far more likely scenario.

“If he’s convicted, he’s looking at a mandatory 18-month sentence and there’s a likelihood of a two-year enhancement on that 18 months because the weapons were allegedly loaded,” Howe explained. “Just right off the bat, there’s a strong possibility that if convicted, he’s looking at a minimum of three and a half years.”

Drafted in the fourth round last year, Jones recorded 30 tackles, a fumble recovery, and two interceptions — including a pick-six — in 13 games. He was poised to play a meaningful role in New England’s secondary before Friday’s arrest.

The Patriots said they were waiting for more information before publicly commenting.
