Terry McLaurin Trade Rumors: Teams to Watch in Potential Deal

June 7, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

According to Jordan Schultz, Washington Commanders All-Pro wide receiver Terry McLaurin has made it clear he’s frustrated with the lack of progress on a long-term deal. McLaurin unexpectedly left voluntary workouts after initially attending, and it’s unclear if he plans to report for mandatory minicamp. With minimal talks and McLaurin entering the final year of his contract, the Terry McLaurin trade rumors could start heating up.

Terry McLaurin Trade Rumors: Could a Deal Be Brewing?

McLaurin’s Production and Current Outlook

McLaurin, 29, ranks among the league’s most consistent receivers despite Washington’s previous quarterback issues. Over his six-year career, he has posted at least 1,000 receiving yards in each year besides his rookie season. McLaurin has totaled 6,379 yards and 38 touchdowns since Washington drafted him in 2019. Known for his precise route running and ability to win against top corners, McLaurin continues to deliver WR1 production even without elite quarterback play for most of his career.

With minimal talk and McLaurin pushing for a long-term deal, a trade could make sense for both sides.

Potential Landing Spots Following The Terry McLaurin Trade Rumors

Several teams could become serious suitors if Washington chooses to move on.

The Las Vegas Raiders are a team to watch. They lack a true WR1 on the roster and have the cap space needed to lock McLaurin up long term. Pairing him with Jacobi Meyers and star tight end Brock Bowers would give the Raiders a much more dynamic passing attack and a clear top option for Geno Smith.

The Los Angeles Chargers also make sense. While they have a young star receiver, Ladd McConkey, he profiles more as a slot receiver. McLaurin would give Justin Herbert a true X-receiver on the outside and balance the offense.

The New England Patriots could join the mix as well. Even after signing Stefon Diggs in free agency, who’s coming off an ACL tear and entering the later stages of his career, McLaurin would immediately step in as a WR1 for quarterback Drake Maye.

The Pittsburgh Steelers stand out as a longer shot. While they need a true WR2 to pair with DK Metcalf after trading George Pickens, Pittsburgh has already invested heavily in Metcalf’s contract. Historically, the Steelers haven’t been a team that pays two receivers top-end money, making it a bit unlikely they would pull off a trade for McLaurin despite the fit on paper.

Terry McLaurin Trade Rumors Could Heat Up

McLaurin’s frustration and Washington’s lack of progress on a new contract could spark more trade rumors soon. His consistent production and versatility make him a top target for receiver-needy teams if Washington decides to move him. Given that McLaurin is entering the final year of his contract and would likely require an extension, a trade could cost a team around a third-round pick.
