Report: Tom Brady Could Prevent Patriots From Making Preferred Hire

January 13, 2024 by The Spun

NASHVILLE, TN – AUGUST 17: Tom Brady #12 of the New England Patriots talks with Head Coach Mike Vrabel of the Tennessee Titans before the game during week two of the preseason at Nissan Stadium on August 17, 2019 in Nashville, Tennessee. Though it might sound bizarre, Tom Brady could play a role in the New England Patriots’ search for a new head coach.

For the first time in over two decades, Bill Belichick will not be the head coach of the Patriots. That will be officially announced at a press conference this Thursday afternoon.

Former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel has been mentioned as a potential option for the Patriots. After all, he won three Super Bowl titles in New England.

That being said, Vrabel’s relationship with Brady might prevent the Patriots from getting their preferred target. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated explained how during an appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub.

Since Brady is on track to be part of the Raiders’ ownership group, he could try to get the front office in Las Vegas to go all in on Vrabel. If so, that would complicate matters for the Patriots.

What if Tom Brady is the reason Mike Vrabel doesn’t become the next Patriots coach? https://t.co/MYqGfBnjJi

There’s no indication that Vrabel is at the top of the Raiders’ list. However, NFL insider Dianna Russini reported that Las Vegas “wants a star” at head coach.

Maybe, just maybe, Vrabel and Brady reunite on the Raiders.
