Report: Patriots expected to hire former rival defensive assistant

January 29, 2025 by Patriots Wire

The New England Patriots are expected to hire former Buffalo Bills nickel coach/senior defensive assistant Scott Booker for a role on the coaching staff. This was reported by CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz on Wednesday.

Booker worked in the collegiate ranks before starting his NFL coaching career as the defensive assistant for the Tennessee Titans in 2018. He was promoted to safeties coach in 2020, as he worked his way up the ranks.

Booker’s arrival comes after longtime cornerbacks coach Mike Pellegrino and safeties coach Brian Belichick both departed from the team. The coaching staff is undergoing a major facelift with the arrival of Mike Vrabel.

Booker brings an impressive resume and added experience to the coaching staff. Time will tell how the new faces ultimately mesh together under Vrabel’s coaching umbrella.

At the very least, Patriots fans can be proud of the much-needed changes after three straight losing seasons.
