Report: Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore reported to training camp

July 23, 2021 by Patriots Wire Leave a Comment

New England Patriots star cornerback Stephon Gilmore was present when the team’s veterans reported to training camp on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

The 30-year-old’s status for the 2021 season has been uncertain since the end of last year, but he solidified his holdout when he missed mandatory minicamp. Gilmore’s entering the fifth year of his contract and he’s only due $7 million, which he isn’t willing to play for.

He’s going to begin camp on the PUP list following the season-ending quad injury that he suffered in Week 15. While speaking with NFL reporter Josina Anderson, Gilmore gave a positive update on the injury. “I feel stronger than I’ve ever felt since the surgery. I’ve been running a lot, building full speed,” Gilmore said to Anderson.

There’s speculation around the league that both parties will come to an agreement and Gilmore will lead the Patriots’ secondary this season. The cornerback depth after Gilmore consists of J.C. Jackson, Jonathan Jones, Joejuan Williams and Jalen Mills.

Training camp will be underway next week.
